A disappointing performance
I’m a little late on posting the results of the tournament. Watch the video below to see why. Read the full post to read more about it. (Click here to watch it in 720p HD)

Pretty embarrassing. That’s what you get when you put 6 weeks of training up against 1+ years of training. It doesn’t help that I didn’t learn anything about standing take downs until about 3 days before the tournament. I’m not trying to make any excuses though. I got caught in a good choke and had no idea how to get out of it. It was extremely tight and was pushing on my throat so hard that I didn’t feel the blood being cut off. Thus, I passed out and looked like a fool. My neck was so sore and tight that I couldn’t compete the second day in the gi tournament. I’m pretty bad in a gi so it’s probably best that I didn’t go anyway.
At least I got a cool t-shirt
My competitor, Brandon, went on to win 2nd place in the division and was a very nice kid who invited me to come train at his gym any time I wanted. It still surprises me how nice and humble nearly everybody who trains BJJ is. One would think there would be a lot more hostitility and agression but everybody loves to help and make the other person a better grappler. It’s very refreashing after you get your butt kicked like I did!
